Fist
Americas Network Magazine
Photoshop
"The fist was stock photography, although in retrospect I'm not sure why I didn't just use a coworker to model this one. The hand was originally African-American, so I altered the skin tone so the image wouldn't appear to be making an incongruous statement about black power. I tore a hole into a piece of stiff paper and modeled the edges into the desired shape, then merged my photo of that into the stock image together with a scan from the financial page of the newspaper (which come to think of it, could also be called a 'stock photo')." — Jon Fraze

Fist
page
The image as it appeared in America's Network Magazine. Personally, I feel it worked better without the addition of the financial chart, but our publisher, Paul Semple, wanted that in there. It makes the page too gray, looking like a daunting amount of text rather than an illustrative element.
