| "Lamsa"
Portrait CRJ Magazine Watercolor wash & airbrush |
"This was the cover image
for a story on George M. Lamsa, a well-known and often-quoted Aramaic
scholar. The story discussed a question as to whether Lamsa's scholarship
was tainted with personal beliefs and motives. The assignment was therefore
to portray Lamsa in a mysterious light. The Aramaic texts in the dark
and smoky background represent to the reader Lamsa's area of expertise.
Lamsa is shown at work with an open text and notebook. I had a single black and white headshot to work from. The body and the props had to be improvised. I researched the Aramaic text as well as I could, and it should correctly represent Biblical text in the Aramaic version used by Lamsa: but I suppose I can't vouch for my accuracy in representing the characters perfectly. I'd be interested to hear from anyone who actually can read this." — Jon Fraze |
