"The story was intended to point out the problems with a popular New Age theory which purported that the Americas were populated by Mediterranean peoples via a lost continent of Atlantis. The art director asked for a pair of portraits highlighting the obvious ethnic differences between Native American  and Mediterranean peoples. In addition, I was asked to create a montage with insets showing the cultural differences between Mayan and Egyptian culture, highlighting the significant absence in the Americas of such ubiquitous Old World developments as the wheel and the domesticated horse. The map in the background, done in an antique style, was intended to represent the theoretical placement of Atlantis."
