"This cover
is included as an example of America's Network's 'new look,' when
we were attempting to redesign the book to convey the image of a business
publication. This was a concept cover, intended to show that telecommunications
vendors needed to metaphorically lose weight in order to compete effectively. "Design elements worth mentioning are the large, simple photo-illustration; the limited font and color palettes; use of geometric shapes to define type areas (in this case a chevron contains the head, deck, and author info), strongly contrasting image, text and background; overlap of text from negative ground into photo image, and so on. "Photo-illustration was a melding of clipped and edited stock photography, combined with my own photography, and text effects."—Jon Fraze |
