"This was a
deliberate homage to Andy Warhol. For America's Network's 90th
anniversary issue editor-in-chief Mary Slepicka wanted an image which
had an artsy, vintage feel to it, and settled on this concept. "Actually America's Network as an identity had only existed since the early '90s, after Advanstar Communications purchased Telephone Engineer and Management, which had been established in 1909. For some bizarre reason Advanstar decided to throw away a nearly-90-year-old identity to relaunch the magazine. It was years before the industry had any idea who 'America's Network' was, and very few people ever figured out that it was the successor to TE&M. "This cover design was accomplished in Photoshop. I also designed the little '90 Years' logo, which we used throughout that year. "—Jon Fraze |
