"This timeline
was required for a two-page spread in a story on the
history of undersea cable deployment. I was given
only text, and needed to track down appropriate images to fill
it out. This turned into a pretty time-consuming project, but
I think it made for more interesting art with the photo-images.
Some of the images came from the National Archives Website, some
from the magazine's own vast and unindexed archives, and a couple
from stock images. "For anyone who might notice the details, that isn't a misprint at 'Source:' That publication date is 3Q00, or Third Quarter of 2000. Not '3000' as it appears to be in this jpeg." —Jon Fraze |
